English Teachers' Teaching Styles And Methods And Students' Learning Styles And Strategies In Selected Secondary Schools In The Division Of Puerto Princesa City, Philippines

The study determined the correlation between teachers' teaching styles of the Junior High School students' learning styles, strategies in English in the Division of Puerto Princesa City. Data were obtained through the use of survey questionaire. Frequency, percentage, mean, Analysis of Variance and t-test were applied in the treatment of data. Results of the study showed that directing was evident and was the dominant teaching style among the English teachers while the students considered delegating as the dominant teaching style evident among their English teachers. As to teaching method, both the teachers and the students considered student-centered method as the dominant teaching method often utilized by the teachers in teaching English. The dominant area was the psychological style in language learing while along learning strategy, the students moderately agreed on affective strategy. The students moderately agreed on the metacognitive, cognitive and social strategies in language learning. Significant correlation existed between teachers' teaching methods and students' learning strategies and their academic performance in English. Significant difference existed on the students' assessments on their environmental physiological and psychological styles in language learning when they are grouped according to gender. When grouped according to grade level, students' environmental, physiological styles in language learning significantly differed. Significant difference also existed in the students and teachers' assessments of the teachers' teaching methods
