The scope of this thesis is to study the value of financial flexibility during the novel COVID-19 crisis.Therefore, the thesis aims to provide another perspective for capital structure decisions and thetrade-off between financial flexibility and shareholders' interests. A firm is defined to be more financiallyflexible if one has more cash holdings, less short-term debt, and less long-term debt. Thatsaid, I expand the study of Fahlenbrach, Rageth, and Stulz (2020) to publicly listed firms in the euroarea to test whether firms with high financial flexibility performed better during the stock marketcollapse - when financial markets were highly stressed.
