The metal refining industry calls for clean and accurate drives that are reliable and easy to maintain. One possible option is to replace traditionally used hydraulic drives with electric counterparts. This study examined chain conveyors and the drive types they use. The conveyors are specifically used in a metal industry setting where they move platelike copper anodes weighing 50-450 kg. The study consisted of a literature review of hydraulic and electric drives, basic calculations of conveyor chain forces and how working conditions affect the drives.
