Isto é devido à capacidade que a PT tem de depositar uma grande quantidade da energia do feixe no final do seu alcance, o pico de Bragg (BP). Apesar de demonstrar resultados clinicamente promissores, a PT pode ainda ser sujeita a diversas melhorias, pois existem diversos fatores que podem comprometer a posição do pico de Bragg.
