The presence of large quantities of fine sediments transported in rivers shows important socio-economic and environmental issues in terms of pollution, water quality and hydropower plants safety and management. In mountain rivers, these fine particles transported in suspension can be temporarily stored at the surface of gravel bars. During natural or artificial (dam flushing) hydraulic events, the deposits can increase by sedimentation of fine particles arriving from upstream.
