L’epidemia di febbre spagnola in Italia: le misure preventive per fronteggiare il contagio

The essay analyses the prevention and health care measures that were taken in Italy at central and peripheral level to combat the Spanish flu epidemic that struck the population from the spring of 1918 onwards. Through an examination of ministerial acts, scientific articles, statistic data and news by national and local press, it reconstructs the course of the epidemic phenomenon in its various phases, the medical-scientific findings, the dissemination of information, the prophylaxis identified by the Higher Health Council, the instructions given by the Ministry of the Interior, the restrictions adopted by Prefects and Mayors and the welfare measures taken.Il saggio analizza le misure di prevenzione e di assistenza sanitaria che furono intraprese in Italia a livello centrale e periferico per combattere l’epidemia di febbre spagnola che colpì la popolazione a partire dalla primavera del 1918. Attraverso la disamina di atti ministeriali, articoli scientifici, dati statistici, notizie della stampa nazionale e locale, si ricostruisce l’andamento del fenomeno epidemico nelle sue diverse fasi, il riscontro medico-scientifico, la divulgazione delle informazioni, la profilassi individuata dal Consiglio Superiore della Sanità, le istruzioni impartite dal Ministero dell’Interno, le restrizioni adottate da Prefetti e Sindaci e le misure assistenziali disposte
