This article opens outlining the Peter Koch and Wulf Oesterreicher’s model of conceptual written and spoken language on a continuum of proximity to distance, which was first published in 1985 and updated in 1994. The model had a rippling effect and instigated wide academic debate and vast research on its application to computerbased communication; Christa Dürscheid’s modification of this model including the aspects of syncronization, quasi-syncronization and asyncronisation relevant to digital communication forms is an example of such a response.
