Tourism, Architecture and New Normality

Over the century, the evolution of a narrative of Tourism originating from a previously exclusive idea of purposed travel or a vacation for the affluent is boosted by an incumbent mass culture and morphed into a systemic dimension. In which all its possible components, from business to pure leisure, from healthcare to cultural interests, tend to become an “integrated offer”, a hybrid of commitment and rest, dense and rarefied time. As the Covid 19 epidemics spreads over the whole planet, how the new normative spatial requirements would trigger different social interactions and different forms of tourism? Action on inner areas or neglected ecosystems would play a pivotal role in (re)shaping fragile natural environments. That physical upgrade would need a steady investment in terms of design, at every scale from objects to buildings to mobility systems and public urban space
