Spaces for Highly Mobile People. Emerging Practices of mobility in Italy

This book investigates emerging mobility practices and their spatial impacts in Italy thanks to the direct observation of mobile subjects. It focuses on two main aspects: 1. it considers how far those practices have transformed spaces in order to fit highly mobile people needs; 2. it looks at changes in the relation between people and territory. The work aims to establish an interdisciplinary and multi-scalar approach to mobility analysis and design that goes behind the limits of specific fields thanks to the application of a mobile method of research. Thanks to this method, the book highlights that influential movers appropriate and configure space for their own needs, centring their activities on continuous but distant places and configuring territories with uncertain and evolving limits. This change of perspective allows, to redefine the concept of mobility space including all the spaces that support the development of emerging mobility practices, and to describe in which way the relationship between individual and territory is evolving into a less sedentary way of inhabiting space.
