Neo-Schumpeterian economics

Schumpeterian economics focuses on the complex and potentially contradictory nature of the relationships between technological progress, economic growth, and social development within the context of capitalist economies. This chapter shows how such a perspective is developed, critically engaging with both mainstream economics and the recent Neo-Schumpeterian Economics (NSE) literature. It is argued that, contrary to other heterodox economic schools, Schumpeter himself and early Schumpeterian scholars, the most recent NSE rarely associates technology to the cyclical occurrence of economic crises, structural unemployment, and social and economic inequalities
