Recupero sostenibile a basse emissioni di carbonio di edifici abbandonati

The progressive abandonment of inland areas has led, in many countries, to the promotion of relo cation policies to encourage the repopulation of these places. In this direction, some Administrations are activating themselves in order to value the patrimonial and peculiar character of these aban doned areas, through strategies of strengthening of communications and services, aimed to promote the development and to attract new inhabitants. The repopulation strategy requires the recovery and re-functionalization of abandoned buildings, to be used as new key functions for the resumption of social and economic development of the area. The renovation of buildings generates a volume of construction and demolition waste (CDW) that will have to be properly managed according to the guidelines of European directives aimed at achieving a circular economy. To this end, the knowledge of the type of CDW generated and its possibilities of use is the first step to contribute to this goal, working in the process of environmental protection. The objective of the research is to elaborate a model aimed at minimizing mixed undifferentiated waste, to be sent to landfill, in the interventions of recovery of this building heritage. The design proposal of the case study includes the analysis of the waste generated and its possible reuse in the building itself or in the construction market. This method “from the grave to the cradle” allows to obtain, in addition to the reduction of waste from demolition operations, also a lower exploitation of virgin raw materials for the construction of the new building
