This textbook emerged out of a Jean Monnet project on studying the EU and Europe from a political sociological view point. This introductory chapter continues as follows: first we will explain what we mean by “political sociology.” Then we will discuss some of the classic political sociologists and show how the field has developed. Finally, we will describe some of the main focal points of political sociology as they are presented in individual chapters of this online textbook.
