The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of three years of ftuoride prophylaxis in primary school children. The number of caries and the value of DMF index observed in this population were not significantly different from that observed in a control population. The age of the children at the beginning of fluoroprophilaxis, discontinuity prophylaxis and the shortness of the period of administration of the fluoride tablet could be the causes of these results. A collaboration among school, parents and pediatricians seems necessary for the success of the project
