This thesis is concerned with a role of science in society and this theme is analyzed through risk and trust in science. It is argued that risk and trust in science are strongly interconnected and that is why they are analyzed together within one thesis. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part introduces generally theoretical context of reflexive sociology as it uses its apparatus. In this part of thesis are mainly analyzed terms of "modernity" and "reflexivity", and they are approached through the theme of science and knowledge.
