SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SUSTAINABILITY: A STUDY OF DAVID IBIYEOMIE FOUNDATION (DIF),PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE

As the world evolves, we move closer to a more sustainable-focused society rather than a profit based one. All individuals and organisations must work together to ensure society's long-term viability. Sustainability is so important that it has become a long-term goal for the world, as included by the United Nations in their 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. However, the issue of sustainability adoption remains the lack of interest in specific sectors or the question of how much impact an organisation or individual can add to sustainability. It has become a norm for private businesses, governments, and educational institutions to pursue sustainability in their institutional frameworks. Numerous researchers have analysed how the institutions mentioned above can be more sustainable. However, social entrepreneurship, whose primary goal is ensuring society and community are at their best, is often overlooked. The primary purpose of this research work was to analyse social entrepreneurship and how it can contribute to sustainability. With over 3000 NGOs in Nigeria and over 10 million NGOs worldwide, if each one works towards the sustainability goals, enabling and encouraging it among their beneficiaries, sustainability will be possible. Therefore, this work studied the relationship and impact between social entrepreneurship and sustainability using the David Ibiyeomie Foundation as a case study. This study used both a survey approach and a descriptive research design. The sample size for the study was 378 because there were 7000 recipients in total. In order to gather information, a well-structured questionnaire was sent. After receiving 357 of these questionnaires, the reliability of the research tool was assessed, and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be 0.858. The structural equational model was used for analysis, and it was concluded that social entrepreneurship significantly affects sustainability. It was therefore summarised and recommended that NGOs partake in sustainability activities and encourage training and learning practices on sustainability
