Syzygium, Escherichia coli antibacterial, flavonoids, Escherichia coli infection

Background: Infections caused by Escherichia Coli bacteria, among others, that often occur in Indonesia are diarrhea and urinary tract infections (UTI). The flavonoid compounds contained in plants of the genus Syzygium are thought to have an antibacterial effect against Escherichia Coli bacteria. Objective: To determine the mechanism of action of flavonoid compounds in plants of the Syzygium genus as antibacterial against Escherichia Coli and examples of plants of the Syzygium genus containing flavonoid compounds. Methods: Plant extract of the genus Syzygium which has been dissolved in a polar solvent and then continued with dilution and diffusion scar antibacterial testing. Results and Conclusions: The results of the measurement of the diameter of the inhibition zone and the concentration of killing of Escherichia Coli bacteria were different for each plant, this was due to several factors such as the selection, the part of the plant used, as well as the method and timing of harvesting the plants
