CODE-SWITCHING IN 99 CAHAYA DI LANGIT EROPA MOVIE AND THE IMPLEMENTATION IN LISTENING SKILL

Humans always need language in their life to communicate with others. However, a few of them toned to communicate with more than just one language to make the communication flow smoothly. Code-switching is used when they want to use two or more languages in their utterances. This research was conducted by the researcher because in this globalization era there are many students who like to spend their time watching movie. One of the movies that very popular and had a lot of code-switching was the 99 Cahaya Di Langit Eropa Movie so the researcher wants to know what are the types and the functions of code-switching in 99 Cahaya Di Langit Eropa Movie and give a way how to implement it in teaching listening skill. Unlike the other research, this research has a goal to know the types and the functions of code-switching in a movie 99 Cahaya Di Langit Eropa Movie then give the way how to implement it in teaching listening skill while most of the previous study tends to analyze or find code-switching is used by the character and the reason code-switching is used by the character in a movie. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative analysis and using documentation table guidelines. The data were taken from seven characters that usually do code-switching when they do conversation and 6 students of senior high school as a participant in joining listening lesson. There are three types and five functions of code-switching that are found from the seven characters in the 99 Cahaya Di Langit Eropa movie. Base on the data the researcher found 39 Inter-S-CS, 4 Tag-SC and 11 Intra-S-CS. The Inter-S-CS became the most dominant code-switching that was found in this research because most of the characters had a habit to produce their language in Indonesia in fully one form then switched it into English at the end of the sentence and the researcher also found 7 Referential Functions, 3 Directive Functions, 8 Expressive Functions, 13 Phatic Functions, 0 Metalinguistic Function and 4 Poetic Functions. The phatic function is the function that is used the most by the characters because they need to say something important to their friends by emphasizing the part of their conversation. The researcher believes that the result of this study would give new insight and knowledge about code-switching especially in functions and types of code-switching such as the explanation of definition, giving examples and cases on conversations that implemented in listening skill
