No effective treatments exist for GMDs, and the mechanisms linking the primary genetic defects to pathology are unknown. Inhibition of the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), a master intracellular nutrient sensing-signaling kinase complex, with rapamycin significantly attenuates disease in multiple GMD models.
