Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) is a highly challenging microsurgical procedure requiring micron accuracy to guide a “big bubble” needle into the stroma of the cornea down to Descemet’s Membrane (DM). In this thesis, the main hypothesis is that optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be used to effectively guide robotic surgical procedures for DALK. With the common-path design of the OCT system, the relative position of the surgical tool and the targeted tissue layer can be extracted to guide the robotic procedure in real time.
