The seventeenth century coin hoard from Silesia in the collection of the National Museum in Szczecin

A hoard of modern coin purchased around 1975 at the local antique shop is kept in the collection of the National Museum in Szczecin. The place, time and circumstances of discovery are unknown. It is only known to have come from Silesia. At present the hoard comprises 633 coins, the oldest one having been struck in 1618, the youngest - in 1724. Almost all of them (99.84 %) come from Habsburgian countries. Most numerous are those from Silesia (270 pieces - 42.65 %) andthe mint of Wroclaw (170 pieces) to be followed by Bohemia (148 pieces), Hungary (120 pieces) and the ancestral lands of the Austrian Habsburgs (92 pieces). Coins struck during the reign of Emperor Leopold I (1658-1705) prevail - 422 pieces. There are 124 coins of Joseph I (1705-1711), and 46 of Charles VI (1711-1740). Three-kreutzer coins (Groschen) predominate in respect of nominals - 455 pieces. There are 174 six-kreutzer coins, and only 4 fifteen-kreutzer pieces.
