The vesre is a linguistic phenomenon which has been relatively little studied. Its descriptions in lexicographical sources seem to be contradictory, incomplete, or even inaccurate as regards its definition. Furthermore, it is associated predominantly with the Spanish of Argentina. At the same time, its vitality in other parts of Latin America seems to be a fact that should be examined more closely. For these reasons, in the first part of this paper we attempt to summarize briefly the premises and terminology (vesreísmo, voz vesreable, vesreamiento) presented in other contributions that, in our view, are essential to its description.
