The paper deals with the history of the discovery of Isocrates' Antidosis. This work was known for centuries in an incomplete form (due to a huge lacuna between the current §§ 72-309). Two complete manuscripts (Milan, Ambros. O 144 sup.; and Florence, Laur. plut. 87.14) were discovered only at the beginning of the 19th century by Andreas Mustoxydis, who published the whole speech for the first time in 1812. However, the story of this rediscovery was complicated by a 'race' to print the new text, as overlooked and unpublished documents reveal.
