In this work the Authors analyze the part-time job characteristics and opportunities, in particular for women in reconciling work with child cares. In fact, within the European Countries, Italian fertility rates and women labour participation rates are the lowest ones. Therefore, after having analyzed part-time job opportunities in Italy, the Authors, on the basis of the Bank of Italy Households Income and Wealth Survey data (year 2004), aim at verifying if today part-time job is really used to reconcile work with child care or if, in some cases, part-time workers would like to work full-time. The analysis is made considering as discriminant variables worker gender and the Italian macro-regions
