The speed of sound in fluids is defined by both the physical quantities which define the thermodynamic state of the system at a macroscopic level, like temperature and density, and by physical microscopic properties which are characteristic of a particular substance, like the potential of molecular or atomic interaction and the configuration of the energy levels.
