Despite being long regarded as merely an amusement for researchers, quantum cryptography has now been accepted has a viable solution for secure communications. In fact, the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics guarantee the unconditional security of the distributed secret keys.We proposed a quantum key distribution system based on single-photons, exploiting genuine frequency-coded quantum states. This new coding technique removes the need for interferometric devices and therefore offers high intrinsic robustness.
