In addition, these disorders are associated with perturbed synaptic transmission. Proper synaptic transmission is critical for maintaining neuronal communication. Furthermore, in many striatal-dependent disease-states, the principle striatal neurons, medium spiny neurons (MSNs), exhibit differential perturbations in downstream signaling.
