L'exploitation des sources salées de Moldavie : un exemple de ressource structurante du territoire depuis le Néolithique.

International audienceBegun at the end of 2003, this Franco-Rumanian project bringing together archaeologist, historian, ethnologist, geomatician, geo-archaeologist, paleobotanist and chemist, focuses on a natural resource with characteristic properties and uses: the salt spring water. This article deals with its objectives and methods as well as the protocol of the spatial analysis and the methodological choices imposed by such various data. This interdisciplinary research on both biochemical, environmental processes and social contexts taken in the long time – since the first exploitation or as early as the most ancient Neolithic – aims at defining the dynamics and the interactions between Man and salted water in a pre-mountainous zone particularly well endowed with salt springs: the Sub-Carpathian Moldavia (Rumania). It shows a current context of exploitations which are still traditional and rich archaeological data such as the oldest European exploitations that we can now date back for sure to the first half of the VIth Millennium BC. After analyzing the exploited – or abandoned – salt springs, and restoring the history of the nearby environments, this study wishes to synthesize and model all of the prehistoric as contemporary, ecological as anthropological results with the help of the shared tool known as the Geographical Information System. With all the depth of temporal dimension that often lacks, it will enable us to define some water territories and to shape one or several spatial explicative models of the settlements dynamics and activities around salted waters, models that may also be tested on other regions and periods.Débuté fin 2003, ce projet franco-roumain réunissant archéologue, historien, ethnologue, géomaticien, géo-archéologue, paléobotaniste et chimiste s'intéresse à une ressource hydrique aux propriétés et aux usages bien particuliers: l'eau des sources salées. Cet article présente ses objectifs et ses méthodes ainsi que le protocole d'analyse spatiale et les choix méthodologiques opérés face à des données variées. Cette recherche interdisciplinaire autour des processus biochimiques, environnementaux et des contextes sociaux compris dans le long terme – depuis l'anthropisation de ces ressources, soit dès le plus ancien Néolithique – a pour objectif de définir les dynamiques et interactions entre l'Homme et l'eau salée dans une zone pré-montagneuse particulièrement riche en sources salées: la Moldavie sous-carpatique (Roumanie). Elle présente un contexte actuel d'exploitations encore traditionnelles et de riches données archéologiques dont les plus anciennes exploitations européennes aujourd'hui datées avec certitude de la première moitié du VIe millénaire av. J.-C. Après avoir analysé les eaux exploitées – ou délaissées – et reconstruit l'histoire des milieux environnants, cette recherche souhaite synthétiser et modéliser l'ensemble des résultats préhistoriques comme contemporains, écologiques comme anthropologiques, à l'aide de cet outil commun qu'est le Système d'Information Géographique. Avec toute la profondeur de la dimension temporelle qui souvent fait défaut, il permettra de définir des territoires de l'eau et de constituer, un ou plusieurs modèles spatiaux explicatifs des dynamiques d'implantations et d'activités de l'Homme autour de l'eau salée, modèles qui pourront être testés sur d'autres zones et d'autres périodes
