International audienceWe present a numerical and experimental study of a photonic crystal (PhC) based, LiNbO3 acoustooptical modulator with an active length of only 13μm and a driving electric power of 20 mW. Experiments show that an enhancement factor of the elasto-optical interaction of the order of 61 is obtained thanks to slow light effects in the PhC. By means of FDTD-2D simulations, we propose a numerical estimation of the elasto-photonic interaction
