Elle bénéficie de la réflexion séculaire sur le statut des chimères, de la redécouverte des entia rationis médiévaux qui en offrent un fondement métaphysique, en concurrence ou en complémentarité avec la théorie des signes hérités d'Aristote, avec la modalité logique du possible et avec la rhétorique du vraisemblable dans l'écriture historique.
