Numerous varieties of Vitis vinifera ssp. sativa, cultivated in Emilia (the western part of Emilia-Romagna Region), have been examined in order to individuate cultivars with a normally developed gynoecium but refexed stamens. Micro-morphological investigations focused on flower morpho-functional characterization of three of these cultivars: Malbo gentile, Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Montericco, in comparison with, the hermaphrodite flowers of Lambrusco salamino and the seedless Termarina rossa. The presence of reflexed stamens resulted associated to the production of viable but morphologically anomalous pollen, lacking furrows and pores (acolporated pollen), therefore not able to let pollen tube growth. The flowers of Lambrusco salamino...
