This contribution analyses the impact of the financial crisis on the Italian and US Labour Markets. The two countries are characterized by very different labour markets before the crisis, differences and similarities are reconstructed to pay then particular attention to the effect of the crisis and to the different costs of unemployment (based on multivariate microeconometric analyses). The final section of the chapter provides policies suggestions based on the results of the comparative analysis
