BIOLOGÍA REPRODUCTIVA DE HEMBRAS DE Chelonoidis denticulatus, LINNAEUS, 1766 (TESTUDINIDAE), COMERCIALIZADAS EN IQUITOS – PERÚ

In order to contribute to the knowledge of the reproductive condition of the Chelonoidis denticulatus females, commercialized in the Iquitos  city, the evaluation of the reproductive biology of this species was carried out during the period from january to december 2008; thus offering useful technical criteria for the regulation of its consumption, by the regulatory entity. Gonads of benefited specimens were collected in two markets, prior to that each specimen was measured and weighed; In the laboratory, the gonads were macroscopically evaluated, measuring and weighing the oocytes, corpora lutea and oviducal eggs. The results show that, in the markets of Iquitos, females in mature and immature reproductive conditions are sold from various basins; Throughout the year, the gonads showed up to 5 stages of development, not showing a strict seasonal relationship. The smallest sexually mature female had a LCC of 325 mm.Con el objetivo de contribuir al conocimiento de la condición reproductiva de las hembras de Chelonoidis denticulatus, comercializadas en la ciudad de Iquitos, se desarrolló la evaluación de la biología reproductiva de esta especie durante el periodo de enero a diciembre del año 2008. Ofreciendo así criterios técnicos de utilidad para la regulación de su consumo por la entidad normativa. Se colectaron gónadas de ejemplares beneficiados en dos mercados, previo a ello se midió y pesó cada ejemplar; en laboratorio, se evaluó macroscópicamente las gónadas, midiendo y pesando los ovocitos, cuerpos lúteos y huevos oviducales. Los resultados indican que, en los mercados de Iquitos se comercializan hembras en condición reproductiva madura e inmadura, procedentes de varias cuencas. A lo largo del año, las gónadas evidenciaron hasta 5 estadios de desarrollo, no mostrando una estricta relación estacional. La hembra más pequeña sexualmente madura tuvo un LCC de 325 mm
