L’objectif de cet article est de décrire et d’analyser le rôle de l’entourage dans la décision maternelle d’allaiter ou non son premier enfant. Il repose principalement sur une enquête qualitative par entretiens individuels semi-directifs menés en 2016 auprès de 26 mères.Ces données qualitatives sont complétées par des résultats quantitatifs tirés de la cohorte Elfe menée auprès d’un échantillon représentatif de mères d’enfants nés en 2011 dont plus de8000 sont primipares. Les données montrent une influence du conjoint, de la grand-mère de l’enfant et des autres proches (ami(e)s, fratrie, cercle professionnel) sur le choix d’allaiter son premier enfant.
