Like the other Parts of this book we are concerned with the design, interpretation, implementation and performance assessment of communication systems for wireless channels. Unlike Part II, we consider the case where the channel's delay spread and/or time variation are sufficiently large that equalization can significantly improve performance. Unlike Parts IV and V, we restrict our attention to classical single carrier, unspread digital modulation schemes even though many principles can be directly applied in other schemes. In addition we mainly focus on linear digital modulations transmitted over linear time-varying channels
