The aim of this study is to define a framework that enables us to set a coherent study of the presentatives in contemporary french. This study is supposed to be a functional synchronic approach. In this perspective, firstly; we dwell upon this category according to different points of the traditional grammarians and contemporary linguists. In this aim, we proceed to a survey of definition and classification that they have established for the sake to delimit the problematic of this category. Secondly, we characterize these latter by referring to their syntactic compatibilities, to their syntactic behaviours and to their formal variations
