Ingoldian fungi or aquatic hyphomycetes are imperfect microscopic fungi, which contribute with other microorganisms to degrade and transform organic plant matter that falls to water bodiesl constituting a trophlc bridge between the submerged leaf litter and the invertebrates of the lotic and lentic ecosystems. These fungi are important from the ecological and biotechnological point of view, given the enzymatic battery they have, so they are also considered indicators of water quality. Knowledge of Hyphomycetes and their diversity index is of great value in determining water quality.
