The paper aims to investigate the dispersion law and mechanism of total iron from the dead-end metal branch pipe to the main pipe under the impact of hydraulic disturbance. A full-scale experimental water distribution network including a transport main pipe as well as six dead-end branches was set up and computational-fluid-dynamics (CFD). Simulations are adopted to study the dispersion phenomenon. The cavity flow theory is adopted to clarify the inner dispersion mechanism.
