Based on the primary source “The Passion of SS. Perpetua and Felicitas,” this paper aims to explore the relationship between the physical and spiritual realms in the early Christian mindset. The account of Perpetua—a third-century Christian martyr—offers insight into religious persecution in the Roman Empire prior to the decriminalization of Christianity by Emperor Constantine in the fourth century. Many physical and spiritual elements are included as the account describes Perpetua’s conversion, her imprisonment, and supernatural visions.
