Heterogeneous combustion is an advanced combustion technique which incorporates a highly porous ceramic within a combustion chamber. Placing a porous solid within the combustion chamber enables heat recirculation which is not present in homogenous combustion and as a result such combustion technology can enable enhanced lean burning operation, reduced emissions of CO and NOx, and increase in the maximum stable flame speed compared to laminar flames [1].
