Background: The objective of this study is the development of the Obstetric Nursing Self-Efficacy (ONSE) Scale instrument and the reporting of psychometric data gathered from a pilot completed in fall 2009 at 2 major universities. Method: The ONSE is an 18-item instrument designed with the use of Bandura\u27s social-cognitive theory. Instrument development consisted of 2 rounds of expert review. The average content validity index of the scale was .91. Results: For preliminary reliability testing, students (N = 20) completed the ONSE survey after participating in a 45-hour clinical rotation in obstetric nursing.
