Phase regeneration of a phase-noise degraded NRZ-DPSK signal is demonstrated experimentally using a symmetric-pump phase-sensitive amplifier in bismuth oxide highly nonlinear fiber. Record phase-sensitive gain of more than 12 dB is obtained. © 2006 Optical Society of America
