Expressions are derived for the cross-spectral density and for the spectral degree of coherence of the near-field generated by a planar, secondary, homogeneous source of any spectral distribution and of any state of spatial coherence. The behaviour of the spectral degree of coherence and the spectral intensity in the immediate vicinity of the source are illustrated by computed examples. © 2004 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC
