Passive scalar advection in Burgers turbulence is considered. Mapping-closure model based on the amplitudes is used. Advective stretching of scales is included. The simpler nature of this problem affords a convenient framework to clarify some aspects of mapping-closure analysis of coupled stochastic fields. The ability (or lack of it) of the joint action of advective stretching and molecular diffusion to generate non-Gaussian scalar statistics in Burgers turbulence in the absence of a non-Gaussian forcing is investigated. © 2004 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc
