"According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2011 the tourism contribution to worldwide Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is around 5%, whilst in Italy the total contribution amounted to 10,3%. At the same time in 2005 the tourism sector was significantly responsible for the human-induced climate change, accounting between 3,9 and 6% of global CO2 emissions report refers to CO2 emissions. Due to its economic and environmental relevance is emerging worldwide the necessity to develop strategies for the sustainability of the sector, focused on the reduction of emissions from transportation and accommodation.
