Mycobacteria are Actinobacteria, which is a phylum of high-GC Gram-positive bacteria. Among the wide range of Mycobacterium spp. are several important pathogens. Most notable of these is Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB).
