Current concepts on complications associated with sinus augmentation procedures

The sinus augmentation, or sinus lift procedure, is an internal augmentation of the maxillary sinus, which is intended to increase the vertical bony dimension in the lateral maxilla to make the placement of dental implants possible. Complication rate associated with maxillary sinus augmentation procedures in the literature is quite low. Typically, perforation of the Schneiderian membrane, hemorrhage, infection, and rhinosinusitis are more frequently encountered.
