Shimyong – History and names of Tangsa groups

Two recordings in which Shimyong Chamkok and Nawang’s father tell the history and names of different Tangsa groups. Shimyong came to Mullong when his daughter married Nawang Champang’s father. The meaning of Chamkok is also explained in this text. Once upon a time there was a place which was only rock. There was a bird staying there and when the Chamkok came there, they did not catch this bird because they slept there (kok ‘sleep’). Consequently, because they slept in that place and did not get that bird, they are known as Chamkok.
