Thromboembolic events represent the most common complication of hemolytic anemias characterized by complement-mediated hemolysis such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria and autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Similarly, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome is characterized by hemolysis and thrombotic abnormalities.
