Introduction: The energy dissipation capacity coefficient (R) is a determining parameter in the earthquake-resistant design. This parameter represents the amount of energy that can dissipate a structure through its inelastic deformations, that allows to reduce the seismic forces for the design of a structure. In the design codes, values for said R coefficient are presented according to the structural system and the structural elements material, but in none of the cases is the dynamic behavior of a structure considered to select its value.
