Introduction: This article is based on the interest of configuring tools to diagnose capacities and reference the needs and different criteria to integrate resources and routines so that Higher Education Institutions achieve systemic innovation objectives as a result of the strategic and operative management of capacities for the creation and dissemination of knowledge. For this reason, this article sets forth the approximation to a categorization model of innovation capacity indicators for Higher Education Institutions. It also concerns about its relationship with knowledge transfer processes based on the generation and classification of indicators regarding the resources and necessary routines to manage this transference.
